Seven chakras, seven hand gestures

Explore the symbolism of steadiness, creativity, confidence, compassion, expression, clarity and spiritual connection.
This is a gentle adaptation of the clapping routine: contact is light, the interlaced hands rest in a loose hold, and the inner wrist is touched lightly. The original routine's forceful clapping and five-to-seven-minute prescription are not instructions for this version.
“Chakra activation” is a spiritual belief, not an established physiological benefit of these gestures. Practice comfortably and stop if something hurts.
- Root: Cross-palm clap. Hold one palm flat and facing up. Place the other hand across it at an angle. Lift and bring the fingers lightly onto the open palm. A symbol of steadiness, safety, and belonging.
- Sacral: T-shaped hand tap. Hold one palm flat and facing up. Keep the other hand upright like a blade. Lightly tap its little-finger edge against the open palm to make a T. A symbol of creativity and emotional flow.
- Solar plexus: Flower-shaped clap. Bring the heels of the palms together. Spread the fingers like flower petals. Open a little, then bring the palms back together with a light clap. A symbol of confidence and purposeful action.
- Heart: Cupped-palm clap. Cup both hands softly, leaving space in each palm. Bring the cupped palms together, then separate them slightly and repeat with light contact. A symbol of compassion and connection.
- Throat: Interlaced hands. Lace the fingers loosely. For this gentle adaptation, rest in the shape instead of clapping with the fingers locked together. A symbol of honest expression and careful listening.
- Third eye: Gentle inner-wrist tap. Turn one palm upward. With the other hand, lightly touch or tap the inner wrist near the pulse point. Keep the wrist relaxed; avoid deep pressure. A symbol of clarity and inner awareness.
- Crown: Flat palm-to-palm clap. Face the flat palms toward each other with the fingers aligned. Bring the whole palms together in a light clap, then separate them and repeat. A symbol of spiritual connection and a wider perspective.
